A New Kind of Research Community

Are you tired of being just another cog in the wheel of massive, impersonal research groups? We definitely were! Many of us have experienced the frustrating cycle of working in larger teams where seniors are more focused on climbing their career ladders rather than nurturing the fresh ideas of early-career researchers. This blog shares how we decided to take matters into our own hands by creating our own group dedicated to the values and needs of young researchers like us.

Why We Made the Change

Being part of a big, established research group can feel exciting at first. However, as time went on, it became clear that these groups' priorities often clash with those of younger researchers. Instead of having our voices heard, we found ourselves sidelined, with our ideas co-opted by others seeking to bolster their own careers.

We wanted a space where collaboration thrived and diverse perspectives were embraced. A space that was free from the ulterior motives of those already settled in their careers. By forming a small, flexible group, we aimed to foster an environment where innovation could flourish, and where every member would have the chance to contribute equally.

What We Stand For

Our mission is simple: to create a supportive community for emerging researchers who wish to pursue their ideas and spread the truth without the constraints of larger organizations. Our group values transparency, inclusivity, and fun! We prioritize projects that align with the interests of all of our members rather than the career aspirations of a few.

This new model allows for a more fulfilling experience, where everyone's contributions impact the direction of our research. By working together, we can discuss ideas openly, provide constructive feedback, and, most importantly, respect each others’ ambitions.

The Benefits of Independent Research Groups

With our independent research group, we aim to empower ourselves. With fewer layers of hierarchy, we aim for swift decision-making and passionate involvement. We are guided by the common goal of having fun while explaining complex issues in a simple way.

Additionally, our diverse backgrounds and experiences fuel unique ideas, leading to innovative approaches that would likely be dismissed in larger teams. We want to learn from one another, share resources, and celebrate our individual and collective achievements.

Looking Ahead

As we continue to grow, we remain committed to our vision of creating an inclusive and genuine research community. We want to redefine what it means to be part of a research group: fun, accessible, and fair rather than short-term oriented, big egos and hierarchy. Let’s take control of our research paths together, transforming the landscape of research communication and accessibility and paving the way for the next generation of brilliant minds!
